The Chamber of Commerce Brantford‑Brant is proud to announce its formal adoption of the Elect Respect Campaign, joining a growing movement across Ontario committed to strengthening civility, safety, and respectful engagement in public life.
The Elect Respect initiative—launched by the Halton Elected Representatives (HER) group and supported by organizations including the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO)—encourages elected officials, business leaders, and community members to uphold respectful dialogue, reject harassment, and foster inclusive participation in civic life. The campaign has gained significant momentum across the province, with numerous municipalities and Chambers of Commerce endorsing its principles.
“Respectful engagement is not only a democratic value—it is a business value,” said Joy O’Donnell, President of the Chamber of Commerce Brantford‑Brant. “Our members know that civility, safety, and professionalism are essential to strong workplaces, healthy customer relationships, and a thriving community. By adopting the Elect Respect pledge, we are affirming our commitment to these principles and encouraging others to do the same.”
The Chamber’s endorsement aligns with its ongoing advocacy for transparent governance, inclusive leadership, and safe environments for those who serve in public roles. The rise in harassment and hostility directed at elected officials across Ontario has created barriers to participation, particularly for women and individuals from diverse backgrounds. The Elect Respect Campaign seeks to counter these trends by promoting constructive dialogue and supporting those who step forward to lead.
