On behalf of our members – and future members – in the hospitality industry, the Chamber would like to recognize the provincial government for continuing its freeze on the basic beer tax and LCBO markup rates scheduled to go up by 4.6% on March 1st. This latest freeze, which the government has implemented since 2018, has resulted in over $200 million in relief to the beer and hospitality industry, and is consistent with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce advocacy policy on competitiveness in the beverage alcohol sector. The Chamber calls on the federal government to match this freeze for two years until 2026.

Tickets are selling fast for the annual MP/MPP Breakfast on Friday, March 1st at the Towneplace Marriott and Suites, presented by our partners in post-secondary education, Conestoga College, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Six Nations Polytechnic. Get yours here!

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce 2024 Ontario Economic Report was released last week, and Chamber President Chris Rayfield was quoted in the Brantford Expositor on its analysis of the economic conditions in Ontario. Thank you to our members in the City of Brantford and County of Brant who completed the brief survey in the fall, which will assist the OCC and the Chamber in our advocacy efforts – such as the “Beer tax” noted above – in 2024.

Finally, many members may be aware that 2023 Business Excellence Award winner Steve Burchell, of Steve’s Tea is experiencing a third round of cancer. Chamber staff connected last week with Steve. Click here to learn how to help.
