Small Business Week Summary: Oct 20th- 24th

The  community of Brantford-Brant celebrated recently on October 20th -24th, region wide. During this week we took part in 6 unique events to help support and recognize the small businesses of the community. It was presented by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), and five more amazing local business organizations.

The week was launched with a bang as Enterprise Brant hosted their Lunch and Learn on October 20th, at the Best Western Brantford Hotel and Conference Centre. On The 21st, The Brantford-Brant Business Resource Centre provided us with Think Like a Mentalist Event and Networking at The Rope Factory Event Hall. On Wednesday, the Paris and District Chamber of Commerce presented the Inclusive Speaker Series at the Wilkin Family Community Centre in Paris.

Thursday featured two Chamber of Commerce Brantford-Brant activities that were free and open to the public. The Chamber’s 17^th Annual Trade Show, presented by Xplore Business which featured over 50 local businesses and non-profit organizations from throughout the City of Brantford and County of Brant. Exhibitors demonstrated their products and services, provided samples and giveaways throughout the afternoon, held at the Best Western Brantford Hotel and Conference Centre. Later on in the evening the Chamber hosted a Business Town Hall. This time was spent reviewing advocacy priorities, learning from businesses the adversities that are currently being faced and the ideas they had for improving our region for commerce.

Throughout the week, The Downtown Action Committee of Brantford organized the Downtown Dash and Snap. A photo scavenger hunt that required participants to  follows hints that lead to 16 downtown establishments. to enter, dashers were required to to start at the Downtown Action Committee office located at City Hall to unveil the first clue that would lead them to the next location.

Ontario gives back to local businesses for Small Business Week

Ontario’s Associate Minister of Small Business, Nina Tangri, issued a statement celebrating Small Business Week and recognizing the 500,000 small businesses in the province, which employ approximately 2.5 million people. Tangri highlighted the government’s efforts to support these businesses, including nearly $12 billion in relief for over 80,000 businesses through tax deferrals and WSIB rebates. The province is also investing in digital competitiveness with $7.5 million for its Digitalization Competence Centre and supporting young entrepreneurs with programs like Futurpreneur, Starter Company Plus, and Summer Company. Further initiatives will be introduced to assist with succession planning and other key decisions, reinforcing Ontario’s commitment to fostering a resilient economy and supporting small businesses with lower taxes, reduced red tape, and innovative programs.
